Go back to the highway Kyiv – Chernihiv and on covering 8 km. you will find yourself in the village of Lemeshi. In 1775, in the village where the last hetman of the Left-bank Ukraine was born, his mother Natalia Rozum ordered to build the Church of Three Holy Hierarchs. Beside the temple was buried the father of Cyril Hryhorovych Rozumovsky. Many events from the life of the famous Cossack family are linked with this village and the neighboring town of Kozelets. In Taras Shevchenko’s time in Lemeshi stood an ordinary hut with an inscription on the beam saying that the Christian Natalia Rozum (see T.Shevchenko’s story “The Princess”), the future mother-in-law of the Russian empress Yelizaveta Petrovna, built it in 1710. Natalia Rozum ordered the Lemeshi temple when she was already a countess. The church can be clearly seen from the highway to Chernihiv. In the early 20 th century the Rozumovskies’descendents built in Lemeshi a school, and recently the church has been presented with the new icon of three holy hierarchs – Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian, and John Chrysostom.
